Hi, I’m Kim!
I’m a writer, poet, and teacher currently living in Newfoundland, Canada.
Read more about me and the work I do below.
Kim has worn many hats over the course of her career. She holds a PhD in contemporary French Literature and Cultural Studies from the University of Leeds, UK, and is a certified English as a Second Language teacher (Coventry House International, Ontario, Canada). She has taught English and French to students of all levels and ages, including at universities, on summer programs, and around her kitchen table. Since 2006, she has worked in the field of corporate communications, first in-house for a non-profit arts society in BC followed by a freelance career, working with clients throughout Canada. She has written marketing copy; website content; blogs posts and interviews; reports; key theme summaries; executive summaries; Mission, Vision, and Values statements; and much more.
Kim loves the possibilities of language in all its forms and today finds joy in teaching languages and writing her own stories and poems. For the past 5+ years, she has been working hard to reconnect with her passion for children’s literature, and has taken courses, joined critique groups, and drafted many manuscripts. She is now starting to share her work more broadly and is excited to continue improving her writing and connecting with other writers in the KidLit community.
When she’s not writing or teaching, Kim loves spending time with her family, drawing, gardening, bird watching, and walking the trails close to her adopted home on the beautiful Avalon peninsula in Newfoundland.
Kim is a member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators), CANSCAIP (Canadian Society of Children’s Authors, Illustrators and Performers; friend), and WritersNL.

The photos used on this website are my own or from Unsplash, with the exception of the photo of me writing with a pink pen on the home page. This was taken by my friend and fabulous photographer, Marilyn Gillespie. Cover illustrations for my Joy poetry books are by the wonderful illustrator, Farida Zaman.
